ZUZANNA OTULAK
Zuzanna Otulak (Zuzanna Synoradzka-Wróbel) is a multidisciplinary artist born in Warsaw. She graduated from the Faculty of Interior Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. She creates both design and artistic works. As an illustrator, she has collaborated with institutions and animation studios, and published in magazines such as Kikimora, Tygodnik Powszechny, Newsweek Extra. She has shown her work at exhibitions in Poland and abroad, including: Illustrators' Salon at the Poznań Book Fair, 3rd TKO Miniprint exhibition in Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka.
In her artistic practice, she navigates the boundary between fantasy and artistic-scientific inquiry. A defining element of her work is nature, transformed through exaggerated forms, scales, and colours. Her imagery draws inspiration both from imagined extinct eras, traces of which survive in archaeological discoveries, and from yet-unknown futures envisioned through speculative and futurological perspectives.
This body of work explores the possibility of an alternative biosphere. The paintings depict a fictional ecosystem in which endemic species have evolved according to different evolutionary principles. By doing so, the artist brings together a longing for closeness to nature with a surreal vision of a new world.
